Hey There!

I’m Claudia Biguetti, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where I teach in the School of Podiatric Medicine — yes, foot and ankle!

However, my background is actually in dentistry. What? Yes, dentistry! I earned my D.D.S. from the University Sagrado Coração (Brazil) and my M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Immunology, with a particular focus on bone, from the University of São Paulo.

Bone infections, healing, and biomaterial integration are critical in every part of the body — whether you're holding a tooth in place or supporting the great toe.

My research focuses on how the immune system influences bone healing and biomaterial integration — a field called osteoimmunology, with exciting applications in craniofacial and in foot and ankle reconstruction.

Since 2017, I’ve also combined my love for science, teaching and art by creating educational illustrations to make complex topics like anatomy, histology, immunology, and tissue regeneration more accessible and engaging for students.

Here you’ll find a glimpse of my scientific work, awards, and a selection of my favorite original illustrations.

Thanks for stopping by — I hope you enjoy this journey through science, education, and creativity!

Welcome!
